I didn't really mean to go this long without posting anything, but life is busy for me at the moment. I told you I'd post my work from last quarter, so I'll show you my second texturing project at least. The movies I made were too big for youtube and I haven't had the time to export them again. But here's the texturing:

As for other news, I still have a month or so of college left. I'm only taking three classes again this quarter, but I've rarely had such a busy quarter. It's probably because I'm trying to redo some past work to put into my reels (or portfolios, since no one outside my major seems to know what that is) for my Senior Capstone project. I'm also taking a class on community service where I have to do 25 hours of work. The title of the class is somewhat deceiving though, since my professor thinks community service doesn't actually solve any problems. Anyway, I'm tutoring Algebra from Mondays to Thursdays to count for that. I'm not a fan of having to be ready by 8 am every day (I don't know how I used to do that in high school), but other than that it's going well. It's at a charter school for former drop outs, and most of the students hate Algebra. They like it more when they understand it though, so I hope I'm being useful in that area.

The other class I'm taking is on Dogma 95, and although the professor is interesting, I've developed a great dislike for the film style. It has to do with getting away from typical Hollywood techniques in order to focus more on directing and character. At first glance, it may sound nice, but some of the films I've had to watch in class are just too weird to like. We watched the first half hour of Jillian Donkey Boy in class, and I was very happy that we weren't forced to watch the rest.

I've been meaning to write an update for several weeks now, but I just haven't had the time. I'm only taking three classes this quarter, but it is just as stressful as taking four. This is the result of one of my classes:

If you think it's a photograph, then I did a good job. However, I think I would need some more attention to detail for it to be really convincing. Here's how it progressed over the course of a few weeks.

Very basic shading and lighting:

A little more advanced:

And then the not quite final unwrap (the checkerboards are there to make sure the the UVs are properly being wrapped around and object):

And now I'm working on another one, which will hopefully turn out better since I have more experience now. I'll post those, and perhaps some youtube links of other projects when I finish them and I get a chance.

As for other random tidbits of news, I was at the annual Winterfest conference last weekend. It was good, but not as good as some times.  I read Emma for the first time. I liked it, but Pride and Prejudice is still better in my opinion. I'm going to read Mansfield Park next. I saw Slumdog Millionaire on Friday. I really liked it. I'm glad it got Best Picture at the Oscars, though I haven't seen any other nominated movies, so I can't really make a good judgement on that. My roommate's sudden Indian music and decoration obsession is finally making sense to me. Now I have Latika's theme stuck in my head. Yeah, I recommend it. But my ramblings are getting kind of long here, so I think I'll say so long, farewell.

I've been back in the States for two weeks, but I've been too lazy to write about it. So, here are some random happenings. Two weeks ago, I was in the Miami Airport waiting for my flight to board. Three weeks ago, I was at the beach. Four weeks ago, I was in the jungle. Three days ago I experienced the coldest temperatures I've ever experienced. In my previous three winters, I had never experienced anything below -2 or -3 degrees Farenheit. On Thursday night it got down to about -15 degrees. Brrr... can't wait until Spring. Anyway, about a week ago, I had an interview for an intership with a post production house in Chicago, but I still haven't heard back to see whether I got it. It sounds like I'll be fetching coffee and bagels mostly if I get it, but I still want it.

I'm only taking three classes this quarter, since I'm running out of classes to take, and it's getting very difficult to put my schedule together. Next quarter I only have to take three as well, thanks to AP Calculus credit. Yay! I'm taking History of American Cinema from 1945 to 1975 (which is a misleading title since we're actually going to be watching several foreign films in the class), Acting for the Camera (which is actually a directing class), and 3D Texturing and Lighting. So that's that.

I suppose I'd better update, since much has happened since my last entry. I finished all my finals, packed, and flew home to Ecuador. Yay! I had Thanksgiving with the same family we usually do, and had a great time. The day after, we went to see an Opera, La Boheme, which was very good. Since then, I've had fun playing computer games with my siblings, eating tasty food, and watching movies and episodes from the Office. A few days ago my niece, well, sort of niece (Valeria's daughter), came to stay with us for a bit, since Valeria's mother is sick, and she needs to be in the hospital with her. She's very cute and energetic. I don't know how mothers manage to take care of toddlers for so long. Well, that's life here for now.

Time for another update! As you can see on my page, the countdown timer is back. In 19 days I'll be flying. Yay! Since my last update I've had a visit from parents, who informed me they were coming just after I wrote my last entry. We went to the Indiana Sand Dunes for a weekend, which was very fun. Then they went away to work/see family for two weeks, and then they came back again. Most of my classes are going well. One of them isn't so much. We're coming up on finals pretty soon here, since we're halfway through week 9 out of 10 weeks of normal class (the weeks go from Wednesdays to Tuesdays, so yes, I do know that Friday is not midway through a normal week). Yup. But I need to go do laundry, get breakfast and wake up so I can start talking and writing in coherent sentences.
